College admissions officers look toward the future

Higher education took top billing in this year鈥檚 State of the Union address, with President Barack Obama vowing to make community colleges as 鈥渇ree and universal as high school.鈥

Just days after that historic proposal, nearly 200 of the nation鈥檚 top higher education officials, federal policymakers and scholars came together at a conference to forecast the future of college admissions. Titled it was hosted by the (CERPP).

The three-day conference also spanned the issues of increasing diversity among America鈥檚 future college-goers, and growing interest in American education from abroad.

鈥淐ollege enrollment in the future will be reshaped by demographic shifts, the success of K鈥12 reform, global mobility, opportunity for transfer students and innovative methods to engage new student populations,鈥 said Jerry Lucido, the center鈥檚 executive director and professor of research at 海角论坛. 鈥淚t will take all sectors of education operating well together to ensure that education levels in the nation improve.鈥

The conference included keynote addresses by Princeton University Professor Marta Tienda, U.S. Department of Education Undersecretary Ted Mitchell and 海角论坛 and USC Viterbi Professor John Brooks Slaughter.
